⏱ 30-SECOND SUMMARY
- If yesterday was “green shell, red core,” today is the reflection: VN-Index fell 5.69 points to 1,753.39, but gainers and decliners balanced perfectly (148 vs. 148)—the index was pulled down mainly by blue-chips, especially VIC.
- More notably, the session lows show a rising pattern: 1,731 (02/10), 1,735 (06/10), 1,743 (today)—a series of higher lows, on volume today below the 20-session average. MACD Histogram compressed for the third consecutive session.
- The quantitative screener revealed a striking pattern: among 14 stocks meeting all 8/8 trend criteria, five belong to the energy chain (ASP, PVP, PET, BSR, PVT)—strength is concentrating in a single sector.
- Three selected names: BSR (closed at daily high for two sessions straight, but on light volume), ASP (a “failed break” that snapped back within one session), and HII (retesting nearby lows).
The market has a curious habit: today often mirrors yesterday. On 06/10, the index gained but most stocks fell. On 07/10, the index fell but gainers and decliners stood level—148 each side—meaning most of the index’s “decline” came from a few very large names, not from the whole market.
VN-Index opened at 1,760.54 points—also the day’s high, meaning it never penetrated above the opening level—then traded sideways, touched a low of 1,743.24, and closed at 1,753.39 (down 5.69 points, -0.32%), sitting in the upper half of the day’s range (58.7%). Intraday tracking showed VIC alone pulled the index down nearly 4.7 points, along with VHM, TCB, and CTG; on the upside, GVR, SSB, MWG, and GMD contributed positive points. Foreign investors continued net selling (over 287 billion VND by midday), concentrated in PNJ, TCB, VHM, and MSN.
The context beyond the chart also merits mention: the banking deposit rate ceiling is noted at around 9% per annum—a psychological headwind for equity flows—while the State Securities Commission has proposed intraday trading and expanded price bands, regarded as longer-term supportive measures rather than immediate catalysts. Vietcap Securities forecasts the index may attempt a rally to retest the 1,775–1,795 resistance zone, corresponding to the MA20/MA50/MA200 cluster.
When 5 of 14 “Top Students” Share the Same Class: Energy
One number in today’s screener made us pause longer than usual. Of 314 HOSE-listed stocks meeting criteria, only 14 achieve a perfect 8/8 on the Trend Template—and 5 of those 14 belong to the energy chain: Alpha Petroleum (ASP), Pacific Petroleum Transport (PVP), Petroleum Integrated Services (PET), Binh Son Refining & Petrochemical (BSR), and PVTrans Petroleum Transport (PVT). If we include Petrolimex Gas (PGC, 7/8), an entire sector is running ahead of the market, while 58% of stocks (181 names) remain in the 0–2/8 criteria bracket. Put differently, strength is not spreading evenly but concentrating in a very narrow corner—beneficial for those positioned there, but it raises risk should money flows shift.
BSR is the largest and most liquid representative of this sector (around 413 billion VND/day). The stock closed at 31.75 thousand VND, up 2.09%, and this is the second consecutive session closing at the day’s high—a nice detail on structure. But read it with volume: 6.69 million shares, only about half the 20-session average (13.56 million). Strong price on light volume typically signals sellers stepping back, not buyers rushing in. RS Rating 98, RSI 62.2—solid technical position, not yet overbought.
ASP tells a story of a “failed break.” On 06/10, the stock fell 5.1% to 14.75 with the widest weekly range and volume 1.4x average, closing near the low. It looked like a bad breakdown—but today, ASP surged 6.8% to 15.75, closing exactly at the day’s high, recovering almost the entire loss in a single session. In Wyckoff theory, the pattern of “penetrating support then bouncing back immediately” resembles a Spring—the final shake before price can advance. However, two conditions deserve clarification: ASP’s liquidity is quite thin (around 3.4 billion VND/day) so price can swing sharply on just a few large orders, and only one session confirms this—we need another session with improved volume to call this a true Spring. Currently ASP meets 8/8 criteria, RS 100, RSI 58.9.
HII (Antifen Industries) belongs to the chemicals sector, meeting 7/8 criteria with RS 100 but undergoing a deep correction: price is nearly 24% below the 52-week high, RSI only 42.4. On 02/10, the stock fell nearly 7% on heavy volume; today, price tested down to 8.52 then recovered to close 9.01 (+3.7%) in the upper half of the range (89.1%), volume 861 thousand shares, slightly above average. MA50 (9.14) sits just above—this level must be broken for the rally to carry more weight than a mere technical bounce.
Key Price Zones to Watch
The reference support zone remains 1,715–1,745 points, with the rising low pattern 1,731 → 1,735 → 1,743 as the key detail to monitor; if the index closes below 1,731 on rising volume, this series of higher lows breaks and a deeper correction becomes more probable. Above, 1,770 is near-term resistance, and the MA20/MA50/MA150/MA200 cluster around 1,777–1,797 is the threshold to overcome for a meaningful rally.
