VN-INDEX 06/10/2026: Green Shell, Red Core — and Foreign Capital Flows

EASY STOCK · Technical Session Bulletin
Session: 06/10/2026 VN-Index: 1,759.08 (+5.88 / +0.34%) TA Score: 3/10

⏱ 30-SECOND SUMMARY

  • VN-Index fell nearly 18 points then made a spectacular reversal, closing up 5.88 points at 1,759.08 — the second consecutive recovery session after a streak of 5 declining sessions, and the second time this week the index “hit bottom then bounced” around the 1,731-1,735 point zone.
  • But this rebound lacks consensus: the index is in the green, while 177 codes declined versus 127 advancing, and foreign investors sold net over 2,500 billion VND — what many analysts describe as “green shell, red core.”
  • MWG stands out as a bright spot in the retail group: up 2.15%, three consecutive sessions with expanding volume, reaching 6.58 million shares today — 2.4x the average — and has reclaimed the MA50 level.
  • Note the corporate event: MWG will record the cash dividend right on 08/10 at 1,000 VND per share, so the reference price will undergo mechanical adjustment in coming sessions.

The difference between the session low and high is 29 points — and most of the story lies in that gap. VN-Index opened defensively, was sold down to 1,734.94 points (down nearly 18 from reference), then buying pressure suddenly stepped in, pulling the index back up nearly 24 points from the low to close at 1,759.08 — near the session high.

Notably, this is not the first time this week the index has done this. On 02/10, the low was 1,731.03 points; today, the low was 1,734.94 points — twice probing the old August 2026 low zone (around 1,715-1,750 points) and both times finding support. In the previous session, we noted the 1,725-1,755 point zone as the key technical support level; to date, that level remains intact.

On the technical front, the first signs of improvement have emerged but remain fragile. RSI has recovered from the 02/10 low of 35.7 to 42.9. MACD Histogram has narrowed for two consecutive sessions, from a deep low of -8.68 to -6.63. However, the MACD line itself continues to decline (-11.02) and remains below both the 0 line and the signal line, while the closing price is still below all four moving averages. In other words: the car has slowed its downward slide but has not yet turned around.

Green Shell, Red Core — and Foreign Capital Flows This is a session where the index rose but breadth tilted toward decliners (123 advancing codes versus 176 declining according to our data; the exchange reported 127/177). The groups contributing the most positive points include VPL, VHM, BSR, LPB, VNM, VCB, MWG — mostly large-cap stocks — while foreign investors sold net over 2,500 billion VND and matched trading volume only reached around 14,489 billion VND, low compared to recent sharp down sessions. A rebound based on a few pillars, amid foreign capital outflows, is typically less durable than a rebound with improving breadth — and this is what Yuanta noted when assessing that there is a higher probability VN-Index will continue to consolidate around the 1,720-1,750 point zone rather than advance straight to 1,800.
In simpler terms: Imagine a ship that has touched shallow water twice in one week and both times was lifted by the tide. That shows the bottom there is quite firm — but if only a few of the largest tugboats are pushing the ship while hundreds of smaller boats still haven’t budged, the next journey will still need more help.

MWG: Three Sessions of Expanding Volume, and a Price Level to Break

While the market debates the quality of the rebound, the retail group quietly becomes a bright spot — and MWG most clearly shows this through price-volume data. The stock closed today at 76,000 VND, up 2.15%, continuing two prior up sessions; from the 72,400 level in late September, MWG has gained around 5% in just three sessions.

The noteworthy point lies in volume. The three most recent sessions show volume rising progressively from 2.57 million to 4.10 million then 6.58 million shares — today 2.4x the 20-day average (2.71 million), accompanied by the widest intraday range of the week (3,000 VND) and the close at the top half (73.3%). By VSA methodology, price rising with expanding volume is evidence of genuine buying interest, distinct from technical bounces on contracting volume. The stock has also reclaimed the MA50 level (72.15) — a milestone that many other codes on the market are currently losing.

But the longer-term picture of MWG remains an unfinished construction. Only 3 out of 8 Trend Template criteria are met, and notably the stock is standing very close to two critical thresholds: RS Rating 68 (just 2 points short of the 70 benchmark of leading group), and the 76.0 price is less than 1.2% away from the “high at least 25% above 52-week low” zone (76.9). Above, MA150 (76.67) and MA200 (79.10) form the next layer of technical resistance; RSI at 63.2 shows the uptrend is not overheated but also leaves little room for “non-stop gains.”

Corporate Event to Note — Cash Dividend According to disclosure, MWG approved the second 2025 dividend payment in cash at a rate of 10% (1,000 VND per share); the record date is 08/10/2026 with expected payment on 16/10/2026. By convention, the reference price will be adjusted down by the corresponding amount of 1,000 VND (around 1.3% of current price) on the ex-dividend date — typically one session before the record date. This is a mechanical adjustment, not a technical signal, and investors need to distinguish between these two when reading the chart in coming sessions.

In that context, MWG being listed first among stocks with relatively strong relative strength and positive Q3 earnings outlook that Yuanta highlights — along with FRT, DGW, MCH, VNM — is no coincidence; public assessments also cite positive growth figures year-over-year for the retail group as a reason why capital flows are more “selective.”

In summary: MWG is showing notable technical improvement signals in price-volume terms — three up sessions, expanding volume, reclaimed MA50 — but the stock still trades below MA150/MA200 and meets only 3 out of 8 trend criteria. The 76.7-79.1 zone is the next “test”; meanwhile, from the ex-dividend date, the price will undergo mechanical adjustment of around 1.3%.

Key Price Zones to Watch Next

With the index now holding the old August bottom zone twice, the 1,715-1,735 point area remains the most important technical support reference; if breached with large volume, the scenario of a deeper correction will have more basis. On the upside, the 1,770 point level is mentioned by many institutions as near-term resistance, and the MA50/MA150/MA200 cluster around 1,776-1,796 points is the threshold that needs to be broken to confirm a quality rebound.

3/10
TA Score — Weak Positive, Slight Improvement from 01/10 Session (2/10)
Two holds of the old bottom zone, RSI and MACD Histogram improvement are positives. Negatives: price still below all 4 moving averages, breadth tilted toward decliners, strong foreign selling and volume not yet engaged.

The following data are compiled from public sources for context: VN-Index rose 5.88 points to 1,759.08 after falling nearly 18 points, with 127 codes advancing and 177 declining; the securities group attracted capital inflows, foreign investors sold net over 2,500 billion VND, HOSE trading value exceeded 14,489 billion VND (Source: SGGP; Nhân Dân, 06/10/2026). Yuanta Securities Vietnam noted that the rebound has not yet proven truly convincing in quality, with higher probability that VN-Index consolidates within the 1,720-1,750 point zone, while highlighting retail, oil & gas, and oil & gas shipping groups with relatively strong momentum to monitor (Source: Sức khỏe & Đời sống, 06/10/2026).
